The empire of the Shapers was vast, the largest there ever was, but it, too, had its beginnings. Back when their race was still young and in tandem with the world around them, a young couple conducting research discovered the Archfire, the essence of all magic. At first, their people rejoiced, for the Archfire gave them powers beyond comprehension, and so they built a city at the site that would henceforth serve as the capital of their people, Danduil - the Citadel.
But the Shapers would soon realize that their newfound power had a dark side to it. They had become rash and cruel, enslaving the lesser races around them and submitting them to their own will. As punishment for bringing such misfortune upon them, the couple that had discovered the Archfire had a spell put on them, and they were to rest in the depths of the city for eternity. Alas, it was too late. Out of fear of being enslaved, the Elder Dragons of Godeland arose from their nests and burned the once-mighty Shaper empire to the ground - only a few managed to escape the slaughter, continuing to cower in fear for millennia to come.

Just to make a correction on the 'notable historical events' section. It was the Soul Carrier and his group that found the Shaper couple. They took the male Shaper with them to Godeland. When they got there, Mordecay decided on his own that he should take the Shaper male to someone who may know how to waken him believing that the Shaper could resolve the portal crisis. Mordecay took the Shaper to Riddengard and he was able to waken him and that is how the mess of Dragon Storm began essentially.
